Who Needs Henry?

Watford 1 - 2 Arsenal

Thierry Henry would be an asset to any team, but in his absence Gilberto is proving to be a most able captain. He seems to pop up all over the field, as willing to defend as he is to attack and setting a fine example to his fellow professionals. Therefore, it was not surprising that he put his side ahead, after 19 minutes and scored his fifth goal in seven matches. Immediately prior to scoring, he had been busy assisting at the opposite end, to frustrate Ashley Young's attempt on goal.

Arsenal were not in front for long as the energetic Watford pressed forward, and Smith forced an equaliser in the 23rd minute. So it was level pegging at the interval with everything still to play for.

In the second half it began to look as though a draw would be the end result, until Arsene Wenger substituted Walcott for Hleb, and Baptista for Rosicky. These proved to be timely changes because Baptista's first touch just missed. Then, around the 83rd minute, Walcott when speeding down the right wing delivered an impeccable long ball to Van Persie whose brilliant finish won the match for Arsenal, who remain a somewhat distant third in the Premiership. But, as Wenger remarked afterwards, "You never know."
