Headstrong Pompey

West Ham United 1 - 2 Portsmouth

Pompey continue to confound their critics, but they are good value for their fifth place in the Premiership, and perhaps the surprise team of the season so far. They have made a habit of winning which contrasts with the Hammers who seem unable to get it together.

Linvoy Primus put the visitors ahead after 16 minutes, when he out jumped the West Ham defence to fire home a powerful header. Then amazingly about twenty minutes later, it seemed that the goal was rerun as Primus rose up again to nod in an almost identical goal, to put his side two up. Pompey should have been further ahead at half time, as Campbell shot over the bar from close range, and Davis also went close.

Manager Curbishley must have been getting the wind up at half time, and replaced Harewood with Sheringham, and Etherington with Tevez. In fact it was the evergreen Sheringham who got one back for the Hammers, who were having a better second half, after 81 minutes.

At the end Portsmouth fully deserved their victory in what has so far been a brilliantly successful season.
