Darting Ronaldo's Red Hot Doubles!

Manchester United 3 - 2 Reading

He's done it again! If Cristiano Ronaldo was a darts player he would be highly commended for his consistent finishing on the doubles. To achieve the same in football is astonishing but this was the third consecutive Yuletide match in which the Portugese wizard has scored two goals, and he is already my favourite for the player of the year. There seems to be nothing this highly gifted star cannot do with a football!

Reading were no pushover and contributed much towards a thoroughly entertaining game in which, in case anybody had forgotten, the object is to score goals. In a smart, move United went ahead in the 33rd minute when the reliable and previously underrated Solskjaer headed into the bottom corner. He was always good enough to be in the starting line-up for United and it's a bit of a mystery as to why he was only used as a substitute for so long. Sonko scored for the visitors in the 38th minute so the scores were level at half time.

After the interval Ronaldo, who had been constantly threatening got his first reward. In an exquisite display Giggs and Rooney combined to get the ball to Solskjaer, whose shot rebounded off the post to Ronaldo and United went ahead. It was all the Red Devils now, and Reading cause was not helped when substitute Sodje was sent off for a second bookable offence. It was no great surprise when Ronaldo volleyed in his second goal in the 77th minute and only the severely prejudiced would deny the skills of football’s Portugese Man O' War!

Lita got a second goal for Reading right at the end, but United are striding on in their quest for the Premiership title.
