Chelsea Still Second Best!

Chelsea 1 - 0 Newcastle

Both sides were plagued with injuries, and you would have to say that it showed! Chelsea were fortunate to get three points, but they scraped through and they remain second after closing the gap at the top of the Premiership.

Shevchenko was on the bench, but as he has not played particularly well since joining the Blues, it was fellow sub Drogba who would be most missed, as his contribution has been massive. Wright-Phillips, who was in the starting line-up, nearly scored after only three minutes. Soon afterwards Kalou and Frank Lampard threatened but they were off target, and it was the visitors who went closest when Rossi's shot was just wide. N'Zogbia had to retire just before the interval to compound Newcastle's injury problems.

It seemed Jose Mourinho was fed up with his sides missing ways, and at half time he substituted Drogba for Wright-Phillips. Things started to improve immediately, with both Drogba and Robben going close. Essien nearly got an own goal to put Newcastle ahead but John Terry saved the day. Then in the 74th minute, Drogba gave his team mates a shooting lesson, when he pounced, drove the ball home, and won the game for Chelsea!
