Middlesboro 1 - 2 Man Utd

Boro' keeper Mark Shwartzer was controversially deemed to have brought Cristiano Ronaldo down, in the area after 18 minutes play. Saha then coolly put the ball away and United had bagged the crucial first goal. Repeated playbacks of the incident showed that there was only minimal contact, and it seemed that Ronaldo stumbled, more than having been brought down. However, the referee's decision resulted in the spot kick and United were ahead.

Giggs , Ronaldo and Rooney were involved in a neat move, that nearly put United further ahead in the 34th minute. Rooney, at full stretch could only get a toe to the ball, which was just inches wide. Ronaldo was constantly booed by the home fans, but there is no denying that he is a tremendous talent, and a delight to watch for at least 95% of the time! He has speed, power and show stopping ball skills and emerged as man of the match.

Boro' were more determined after the break, but it was Ronaldo again, who was only denied by a brilliant Schwarzer save, in the 53rd minute. Then, in the 66th minute Boro' hit back, when James Morrison volleyed the ball home. Their equaliser was short lived however, as Ronaldo sprinted into the area, past Andrew Taylor. He narrowly kept the ball in play, tapped it cleverly to Giggs, who crossed to Fletcher to head home in the 68th minute.

That was how it finished, with a seemingly unstoppable Ronaldo, leading United's All Stars. The crowd may have loved and loathed in equal measure, but there was no doubt the Portuguese winger put on a show to remember.
