Steven Gerrard celebrated his inclusion in the New Years Honours List by leading his side to victory over the Londoners. Spurs had been enjoying a purple patch at White Hart Lane, with a string of twelve home victories. It must have been hard for them to accept defeat by a Liverpool side, whose away performances this season have not been up to standard.
Luis Garcia put his side ahead just before half time, in a match that lacked the anticipated quality, of its participants. Zokora was at fault in allowing Gerrard to take the ball, which was headed by Davenport towards Garcia, who had no difficulty in pushing it home.
Although lacking in entertainment value, Liverpool will be grateful for their win, which keeps them in the top four.
