Liverpool Miss Out

Blackburn 1 - 0 Liverpool

Blackburn's American goalkeeper was in sparkling form and helped his side clinch an unlikely win, to assist their cause at the wrong end of the Premiership!

Liverpool were forceful in attack, but it has to be said, without scoring! It's goals that count, but Friedel denied Crouch twice in the first half. It could be said that Crouch's efforts lacked venom, or were straight at the goalkeeper. However, an essential part of goal keeping is to be in the right place at the right time, so full marks to Friedel. Bellamy and Riise had good chances, and Robbie Savage missed for Blackburn. So, after having most of the play, Liverpool's first half endeavours amounted to nothing.

Shortly after the interval Liverpool were made to pay for missing out. Rovers got a great goal, when Tugay and Pederson combined to move the ball to McCarthy, to whip home from close range, in the 49th minute.

Bellamy had further chances for the visitors, and a Kuyt shot was well saved by Friedel. Alonso shook the woodwork then threatened again, but this was Brad Friedels day and despite them throwing everything at him he kept Liverpool at bay.
