Liverpool Move Up!

Charlton Athletic 0 - 3 Liverpool

Liverpool were rightly awarded, a penalty in the third minute, When Traore's rash high kick seemed to catch Pennant on his head. Alonso easily converted and the writing was on the wall. However, despite continuous pressure, including goal attempts by Bellamy, Kuyt and Gerrard a second goal was proving to be elusive.

Charlton were not making the most of their few chances, and should have equalised when defender Hreidarsson rifled the ball over an open goal mouth. Later on Darren Ambrose was denied when a good volley flew over the bar.

After the interval, Liverpool were soon buzzing again, and Kuyt hit the post after about an hour. Darren Bent then missed a chance for the home side, but it was the energetic Bellamy who put the visitors two up after 82 minutes. The game was already won, when a Gerrard special gave Liverpool their three goal lead.

Liverpool are now third in the Premiership, and somewhere near where you would expect them to be. They are winning away from home, but they will have to convert more of the chances they create if they are to threaten the top two!
