Up Pompey!

Arsenal 2 - 2 Portsmouth

As either side could, and should have won, a draw was probably the right result!

Initially al the pressure was coming from Arsenal, but David James, who has been a revelation this season, was able to stop all the ammunition the Gunners through at him. Van Persie, Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas could all have scored, but for Pompey's reliable and revitalised ex England keeper.

Portsmouth worked their way back into the game, and they were getting the better of Arsenal by the interval. Their efforts were rewarded in first half stoppage time, when Pamarot headed home, from a move started by Matthew Taylor. That seemed to wet his appetite, because as soon as the game restarted, he beat Lehmann to put his side two up and it looked as though the home side were in trouble.

Arsenal then substituted Alladiere with Adebayor, who soon made a difference when he lashed the ball past James after 58 minutes. Pompey had hardly got their breath back when Gilberto levelled the scores two minutes later. That was how it finished but Arsenal were unlucky not to win it at the end, when Van Persie's shot was just wide.

This was an entertaining game with Portsmouth continuing to hold their own among the big boys!
