Manchester United 3 - 1 Wigan


Over 76,000 fans were treated to another win by the Red Devils, and their star Portuguese winger, unless of course they were Wigan supporters! The first half was goalless despite efforts by Park, Ji-Sung, Silvestre, Scholes and the luckless Rooney.


Kirkland, in the Wigan goal was up to everything United threw at him, and it seemed that he would save the day! However, United had a not so secret weapon standing by, in that Cristiano Ronaldo, for reasons best known to Sir Alec, was on the subs. bench.


As the game restarted Ronaldo came on for Fletcher, and almost immediately United went ahead. The superb Kirkland had little chance, when Scholes directed in a corner kick which was headed home by Ronaldo, in his first touch of the match. Shortly afterwards he made it two after Park had been fouled by Teale in the box. Actually Kirkland saved the spot kick, but the ball rebounded to the winger who slammed it home.


Wigan's chances were slipping away and were completely extinguished when Solskjaer made it three for the home side in the 59th minute. To save face they did get a consolation goal in the 90th minute, but United continue their Xmas celebrations at the top.
