Arsene Wins The Derby!

Arsenal 3 - 0 Tottenham

You need luck to win a Derby, and Arsenal had it a plenty as referee Graham Poll's decisions seemed to go their way!

Arsenal went ahead after 20 minutes through Adebayor when he seemed to be offside. Then in the 42nd minute, Spurs defender Chimbonda cleverly tackled Rosicky, who went tumbling over despite a fair attempt to get the ball. Referee Poll, handed Arsenal a penalty, which Gilberto Silva converted to put his side two up.

To cap it all a further dubious penalty kick was handed to Arsenal in the 72nd minute, shortly after their own man, Van Persie had handled the ball. Gilberto Silva got his second goal from the spot which GAVE Arsenal their third, seemingly handed to them on a plate!

You would have to say that Tottenham were unfortunate to be on the receiving end of dubious refereeing decisions. If this Derby had been a horse race there would have been a Stewards Enquiry!

Liverpool Get Away!

Wigan 0 - 4 Liverpool

Liverpool, who have not been performing at all well away from home, chose Wigan to turn that around. Actually, it was more like Craig Bellamy, whose goals in the 9th an 26th minutes set the scene.

Bellamy's first was a humdinger, as he beat Matt Jackson to bend a great hit into the net. Then in the 26th minute he combined with Steven Gerrard and got his second goal. It could easily have been a hat trick in the 40th minute but he unselfishly fed the ball through to Kuyt, who made it three up for the visitors. To add to Wigan's misery, McCulloch prodded the ball into his own net just before half time.

Liverpool eased off after the break, but Wigan were denied a consolation goal. So, you would have to congratulate Liverpool in general, and Craig Bellamy in particular on a much improved away performance.
