Rooney Rubs It In

Everton 2 - 4 Man Utd

Everton went ahead after 12 minutes, when a Stubbs free kick was deflected in off Michael Carrick. It proved to be the only goal in the first half, providing little indication of what was to follow.

United were in shock when the home side went two up five minutes into the second half. Onlooker, Sir Alex Ferguson looked particularly gloomy. Everton though, were without regular keeper Tim Howard, due to some transfer consideration. In the 61st minute the game was turned on its head, when the less experienced Turner, fumbled the ball to O'Shea, who prodded it home. Suddenly Everton went from looking good to very sloppy. That was compounded by Phil Neville's own goal, in the 68th minute. United were level and Sir Alex looked more relaxed!

The United manager had plenty to smile about, when Wayne Rooney rubbed salt into the wounds of his old club, with a great goal in the 79th minute. The boss was laughing when Eagles scored United's fourth in the 90th minute, and he indulged in a celebratory dance after the final whistle. He was obviously aware that Chelsea had only drawn against Bolton.

At odds of about 25 - 1 on, it is barely possible that United will now be beaten in their quest to reclaim the Premiership title. It certainly seems as though this part of the season's honours is settled!
