Lancashire Hot Pots!

Man Utd 4 - 1 Blackburn

Blackburn played well and deserved to be in front at half time, after Derbyshire had scored in the 29th minute.

Brad Friedel defended well in the Blackburn goal, and denied Ronaldo, and Rooney, who is not at his most inspiring at the moment, and must have been frustrated in putting in another goalless performance. It was the ever reliable Paul Scholes, who got United level after 61 minutes, beating Nelson and Warnock, and giving Friedel no chance.

The Scholes goal was all United needed to move up a gear into all out attack. Carrick got a second goal, from a Ronaldo cross after 73 minutes. Park made it three, when Friedel could only parry Ronaldo's free kick, and right at the end, Solskjaer got a fourth.

This was a competent performance, from a team intent upon being league champions - amongst other things!

Chelsea Leave it Late

Watford 0 - 1 Chelsea

This was a game that both sides need to win for contrasting reasons, Watford in their quest to avoid relegation, and Chelsea who dearly want to remain champions. At the end - the very end - it was Chelsea who prevailed, but they had to work hard to secure maximum points.

Watford were not easily overcome, and with a little more determination could even have won it. Kabba should have scored after 50 minutes, but he shot wide. Then, when a goalless draw seemed most likely, Petr Cech denied Damien Francis.

Ninety minutes were up, but with the game swinging into extra time, Shevchenko seized the initiative. He produced a great cross that Kalou headed home for a last ditch winner. So Chelsea still have an outside chance of thwarting United's ambitions. The odds are getting longer, but they won't give up!
