Chelsea 1 - 0 Liverpool


Joe Cole has returned from injury with a vengeance, and won this game for Chelsea with the only goal of the match. Frank Lampard nearly added to the score before, and again after the interval, but was denied by Jose Reina.


Chelsea deserved to win but Steven Gerrard went closest for the opposition, with a superb volley that was saved, equally superbly, by the redoubtable Petr Cech. Jose Mourinho thought Chelsea deserved a penalty When Arbeloa handled, but it seems the ref conspired against him!


The scene is set for a great second half at Anfield next week, which should be nothing if not exciting. With Joe Cole returning to match fitness, Chelsea may have the ammo to shoot Liverpool out! Whether they can do that at Anfield remains to be seen, because the Reds will be at least as eager to make the final.
