Fergie Caught Redknapping!

Portsmouth 2 - 1 Man Utd

Harry Redknapp's Pompey delivered a blow to United's Premiership ambitions, and helped Chelsea to believe that they can turn the tables at the top! Pompey's defence was brilliant, and Linvoy Primus twice thwarted Wayne Rooney. The England player thought he had been fouled, and vociferously questioned the referee, for not awarding penalties, on both occasions. TV replays showed referee Mark Clattenburg had made the right decisions, and Mr Rooney again demonstrated a need to curb his temper!

Just on the half hour, Van der Sar could only parry a good strike from Benjani, which Matt Taylor forced home. Rio Ferdinand had reacted slowly to the threat, and Pompey were ahead.

After the interval Giggs replaced Richardson, and then Solskjaer replaced Fletcher after 59 minutes. Smith came on for Carrick after 77 minutes, but despite almost continuous attack United were kept at bay, by the in form David James. The same could not be said about Van der Sar at the other end. There was a complete lack of communication between him and Rio Ferdinand whose back pass finished up in the net, for an unlikely own goal.

John O' Shea got a consolation goal for United in the 90th minute but they had lost the plot and surrendered three valuable points. It was a great team effort by the home side, which should ensure an exciting climax as the season draws to a close!
