England Striker Bags Hat Trick

Liverpool 4 - 1 Arsenal

Peter Crouch is back with a vengeance, and was the significant difference separating these two teams. He returned with a hat trick, after an enforced absence with a broken nose, clearly demonstrating how useful he could have been if he had been available for England. The national team have had their noses put out of joint by comment on recent performances, and they sorely need a Crouch style recovery to salvage their European aspirations.

This match was a great turnaround for Liverpool, who had previously lost to Arsenal in the league, the FA Cup, and the Carling Cup. It was good that Crouch put on a star performance when the clubs new American owners were present. There was some clever back heeling from Arbeloa and Pennant, to prove that United's Ronaldo is not the only player capable of such trickery. Crouch appreciated their moves, and was available to score his first goal after only four minutes. His second, after 35 minutes, was a well-directed header from Aurilio’s cross.

After the break Agger put the home side three up with Aurilio again the provider. Gallas pulled one back for Arsenal in the 73rd minute, but time was running out! It ran out completely when Crouch got his third, and Liverpool's fourth in the 81st minute.

It was great to see an England player with his scoring boots on. Good for Crouch and good for Liverpool, whose new owners, interviewed afterwards, were plainly delighted with the result.
