Kaka Spoils The Party!

Man Utd 3 - 2 AC Milan

Rooney (2) and Ronaldo both scored for United, and it's just a pity that Brazilian superstar, Kaka, had to spoil the party! Nevertheless, it was a great win for the home side with Rooney back in form at exactly the right time.

Ronaldo opened the scoring, after only six minutes, with a powerful header that struck Dido but spun onward into goal. It looked as though United might impose themselves again, as they did against Roma, but the visitors calmed the situation and then retaliated with the brilliant Kaka levelling the score in the 21st minute. He easily went past Wes Brown and Heinze, and beat Van der Sar from a difficult angle. In the 37th minute he was at it again, demonstrating exquisite skill, to beat Evra and Heinze before steering the ball round Van der Sar. The home side must have wondered what had hit them, as they were an away goal adrift at half time, and it could easily have been more.

United did not roll over, and whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have done the trick. Carrick went close, and then Scholes spectacularly flicked the ball to Rooney who directed it past Dido into the corner of the net. So United were level on the hour, and it appeared that was the way it would finish. However, two minutes extra time were signalled and Rooney scored again to clinch this first leg.

United will now go to Turin, with a sound opportunity of holding Milan in the second leg, for an all-English final. They continue to have injury problems at the back, but great scoring potential up front with Ronaldo and Rooney, to name but two!
