Chelsea Make The Semi Final

Valencia 1 - 2 Chelsea

Chelsea are through to the semi finals of the Champions League. Michael Essien got the winner in the 90th minute proving once again that Chelsea just never give up.

Valencia had the better of the first half, and Fernando Morientes nearly put them ahead on the half hour, when his powerful shot hit the post. However, he made no mistake two minutes later when he half volleyed a pass from Joaquin, to put his side in front.

Drogba almost levelled, but he is having a bit of a lean spell and Canizares saved his shot. So at the interval, Chelsea were behind and needed the encouragement of their persuasive manager!

Whatever Mourinho said at half time seemed to have done the trick. In the 52nd minute Drogba's shot was diverted to Shevchenko, who neatly pushed it home to level the match. In an all action climax Canizares made a wondrous save to deny Michael Ballack’s header. It seemed almost certain that the game would go to extra time, when the reliable Michael Essien squeezed in the winner.

It seems sure that Chelsea will now play Liverpool in the semi finals. The Merseysiders have a three away goal advantage over PSV Eindhoven, whose cause at Anfield seems insurmountable.
