Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle

Back to form Arsenal outclassed Newcastle and drove their wealthy owner Mike Ashley to drink! BBC cameras were on Ashley as he downed a pint in a most professional manner, but unfortunately his side could match him with their ability on the field. One thing for sure, is that on this occasion the owner did not have much to celebrate, but nobody would blame him for drowning his sorrows.

On the other hand Arsene Wenger was understandably delighted with his sides performance, as was evident from the broad smile that accompanied each Arsenal goal. Man of the match, Robin van Persie bagged a brace, as the fluent London side made the Northerners look ordinary. The three - nil score line looks good on paper, but on this performance it could easily have been six - nil such was the superiority of The Gunners.

The writing was on the wall, after 14 minutes, when Robin van Persie thumped an unstoppable penalty passed Shay Given. It was Goalkeeper Given who was largely responsible for containing the Arsenal goal count to three. An inconsistent Michael Owen shot wide but after 40 minutes Van Persie was able to put his side two ahead, when he knocked in a neat back heel from Emmanuel Eboue.

After the break Nicky Butt was unlucky when a glancing header hit the bar. It was one of the few chances the visitors had to stop the rot before they were again on the rack. Adebayor and Nasri combined to get the ball to Denilson, who finished it off with a smart shot past Given, to make it three up for Arsenal after 59 minutes. Newcastle brought bad boy Joey Barton on to loud booing from the stands. However, there was nothing they could do to stem the tide and for them, this was not a day to remember. Not for the right reasons anyway.
